USA The US State Department recently raised its alert level for American travelers wishing to travel to Algeria to level 4, the highest on its insecurity scale, citing risks of “terrorism and kidnapping”. “Terrorist groups continue to prepare possible attacks in Algeria. Terrorists can attack with little or no warning and have recently targeted the Algerian security forces, ”reads the State Department’s website, which advises Americans“ not to travel ”to Algeria. “Most of the attacks take place in rural areas, but attacks are possible in urban areas despite a significant police presence,” said US diplomacy. The State Department also recommends that its nationals “avoid going to rural areas located less than 50 km from the border with Tunisia and less than 250 km from the borders with Libya, Niger, Mali and Mauritania due to terrorist and criminal activities, including kidnappings ”.
