A rich program of actions initiated by the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat and Icomos As every year, Morocco celebrates the International Day for Monuments and Sites on April 18. For this 40th anniversary celebrated in a particular context of generalized health crisis, the International Council of Monuments and Sites (Icomos) has chosen this year as the theme “Complex past, diverse future”. In this wake, the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat chaired by HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, and Icomos Morocco have initiated a rich program of awareness-raising and popularization actions around the historical values of Rabat. By adopting the theme chosen for this year, the organizers stress that they wish to “enlighten the general public on the rich past of the city of Rabat and project themselves into the future with a new perspective based on human values and the recognition of universal values of cultural heritage ”. Indeed, from this Monday, April 19, an awareness campaign among schools in Rabat will be carried out in partnership with the Regional Academy of Education and Training of the Rabat-Salé Kénitra region. The objective is to help schoolchildren, under the guidance of their teacher, discover the scope of the inscription of Rabat on the UNESCO World Heritage List and to make them aware of its outstanding universal value. In parallel to this action, 400 schoolchildren spread over 20 schools in Rabat will participate in the artistic workshop: “I draw my heritage”. “The goal is to make these schoolchildren aware of the historical values of Rabat, through artistic and plastic creation and by stimulating their imagination, the schoolchildren will deliver their perceptions of heritage. The work of the schoolchildren will be the subject of an exhibition, once the sanitary conditions allow it, ”explain the initiators. In addition to the particular interest shown by young people in heritage, the program offers a webinar intended for the general public scheduled for April 29 around the same theme. “This webinar will evoke the millennial past of Rabat and its region from antiquity to the present day, it will also deal with the outstanding universal value of Rabat, classified as World Heritage since 2012 and how to preserve it in order to pass it on to future generations” , we say. Since the inscription of Rabat on the World Heritage of Humanity in 2012, the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat, under the chairmanship of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, has been consecrated as a transversal body for the coordination of actions for safeguarding and enhancing the heritage provided for in the management plan, a governance tool for the property inscribed by Unesco. It should be remembered that the Foundation for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Rabat aims to perpetuate and transmit the historical, architectural, artistic, landscape, material and intangible values inherent in the cultural heritage of Rabat. To do this, it ensures the monitoring of current and existing projects, promotes synergy between the actors concerned by the safeguard of the heritage and works for the awareness, promotion and evaluation of the state of conservation of the heritage.
