Nine Moroccan artists and two Bahrainis will create new murals With the relaxation of health restrictions in the face of Covid-19, the old medina of Asilah has decided once again this year to put on its finery to welcome the season summer. It is in this sense that the 42nd International Cultural Moussem of the city is being held, whose work began on Friday June 25 with the mural painting workshop with the participation of 11 artists: nine Moroccans and two Bahrainis. In a festive atmosphere and with the hope for the Zaïlachis to emerge from this health crisis, “the city is continuing its summer tradition of mural paintings this year, from which it has stood out for more than forty years. This year sees the realization of 11 new frescoes in the streets of the medina. This mural painting workshop, which takes place this year from June 25 to July 3, has over time been able to become part of the habits and rituals of the city, ”says Mohamed Anzaoui, painter and head of the mural painting workshop. . Open-air gallery After the whitewashing of the walls of its main districts, the medina has become an open-air gallery. And like every summer season, this mural painting workshop, which has experienced strong Moroccan participation this year, creates great dynamism in all the spaces of the ancient city. It usually attracts a large number of audiences to see the artists making their works. Moreover, the 11 participating artists will create new murals, which are intended to adorn the medina of Asilah for a year. They are thus motivated to leave their mark through their works produced among historical and tourist sites within the city. They will be inspired by the maritime and cultural aspect of which the white city stands out. Painting and engraving workshops In addition to wall paintings, this 42nd Moussem is distinguished by the holding, from July 3 to 18, of two other painting and engraving workshops at the Palace of Culture, better known to the Zaïlachis by Ksar Raïssouni. The program also includes a children’s painting workshop, most of the work of which will take place in the gardens of this prestigious palace. The works produced by the budding artists will be exhibited at the end of this workshop. Initiated by the Foundation of the Asilah Forum, the works of this 42nd Moussem take place, under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI, in summer and autumn sessions. In addition to contemporary art workshops, the first session of this edition will see the holding, in partnership with the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Sciences (ALECSO), from July 9 to 11, of a conference under the theme “The role of the creative economy in development”. While the second autumn session, whose work will take place from October 22 to November 13, will see the organization of six conferences dealing with various priority subjects or related to current events. These six conferences will take place with the participation of a host of African and Arab researchers, intellectuals and experts, within the framework of the 35th session of the Al Mouatamid Ibn Abbad Summer University.
